A Charming Field for an Encounter: The Battle of Fort Necessity, July 3rd 1754
By the summer of 1754, French and British troops were in open conflict in the Ohio Country of Western Pennsylvania. Fearing an attack by some 700 approaching French, Canadian and Indian allies commanded by Louis Coulon de Villiers, Lt. Col. George Washington ordered a hastily-built “Fort of Necessity” at the Great Meadows. In the ensuing battle, Washington would be tested for the first time on the field of battle against an overwhelming French force, and the French and Indian War had begun. Nearly 200 French, Indian and British 28mm figures will clash at the Great Meadows on extensively-researched custom built terrain.
